Area code 208 serves the entire state of Idaho and was one of the original area codes established in 1947. For decades, it remained the only code in use throughout the state, covering major cities such as Boise, Idaho Falls, Coeur d'Alene, and Twin Falls. Due to increasing demand, especially in the Boise metro area, 208 was overlaid with area code 986 in 2017. The 208 code is deeply tied to Idaho’s identity and continues to be seen on long-standing businesses and community landmarks. Ten-digit dialing is now mandatory statewide. It represents a diverse region of agriculture, technology, outdoor recreation, and natural beauty.
